Verse: 1 John 5:9-10
9 We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.
Devotion
When my son Samuel was younger he tried an April Fool's prank on me. He put shaving cream on my phone while I slept, thinking that when I woke up I would grab it and get it all over me. However, he did it so early in the morning that the shaving cream melted before I woke up, so my phone was just wet and sticky. AND, it melted into my iphone speaker....so it ruined my speaker. Not the best April Fools prank ever.
This passage is like the anti-April Fools bible passage. The basic gist is this: we can trust God. If he says that Jesus is the Son of God, then Jesus is the Son of God. If he says he will rescue us from our sins, then he will. If he says that he offers us abundant life, then he does. If he says that his mercy and grace are ours without measure, then they are.
Maybe you need to hear this today. You can trust God. He is faithful. What he says he will do, he does. 1 Corinthians 1:20 tells us, "For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ." Your past is secure in him. Your present is secure in him. Your future is secure in him. You can trust him with your family. You can trust him with your weaknesses. You can trust him with your finances.
Psalm 119:90 tells us about God, "Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast." His faithfulness to you and I is like his faithfulness in establishing the earth. The Psalmist tells us, just like the earth continues to stand fast, he will continue to be faithful to us. What an incredible promise—that we know is YES and AMEN in Jesus!
So be encouraged today! God is faithful. His Word is unshakable. His character is undoubtable. His love is undeterred. His truth is unbreakable. And your standing in him is unquestionable. Praise God! Following Him is no April's Fools joke!
