No Days Off

Verse:  2 Timothy 4:1-2

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:  2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.

Devotion
There are no days off. It is so easy to get stuck in the trap that we do our "Christian thing" at church, at youth group, on mission trips, and on outreaches. But the rest of life we are just like everybody else.

At soccer practice, at school, at work, in the gym...we are just like everybody else. Is that the case with you?

This verse tells us that there are no days off. Following Jesus isn't a switch we get to turn on and off again when we feel like it. It is more than a set of beliefs we hold. It is a holistic lifestyle. It is who we are. And we are called to live for him "in season and out of season."

In other words—we are called to live for him when it's easy and when it's difficult, when it's convenient and when it's annoying, when it's popular and when it costs us. There are no days off in following Jesus.
