Verse: 2 Timothy 2:14

Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.

Devotion
Possibly my favorite app on my phone is the Reminders app. At least once a day I talk to my phone and ask it to remind me to do something. I get ideas all the time and then...I forget them! Before this app existed, my desk as work had sticky notes covering it with things I didn't want to forget to do.

As we read the Bible, "remembering" becomes a powerful theme. There is something about us that tends to forget what God has done, and who God is. We tend to succumb to the inertia of every day life, to forget how good he is, and to focus on the bad and the temporary things of life.

This is why Paul commands Timothy (and we would be wise to heed his advice) to remind God's people of his teachings. We can apply this to our personal lives in this way: we need to remind ourselves of God's teachings and his ways. AND we need to helpfully and lovingly remind others. Check out some of the things Scripture exhorts us to remember:

Deuteronomy 6:12
Then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Psalm 77:11
I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.

Psalm 143:5
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.

John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

What do you need to remember about God today? What has he done for you that you need to remember? What do you need to remind yourself about him, or about what he has shown you, or about how he has encouraged you?
