Never Be Shaken

Verse: Psalm 62:1-2

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

What things in your life threaten to knock you off balance? What things threaten to steal your peace? What things threaten to destabilize your well being? In the next verse, David writes, "How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down—this leaning wall, this tottering fence?" David is in some situation where he is having to remind himself that he doesn't get his security, his peace, his well being, or his self worth from other people or from "things going his way."

"TRULY, my soul finds rest in God." We can find artificial rest in other escapes, but only in God do we find the truest form of rest. Our souls find rest when we lean on God as our ultimate source of peace. I love Psalms like this that remind us that our sense of well being isn't something we have to conjure up, or something we get only when things are really good in life.

Psalm 121 echoes this sentiment:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

Where does our help come from? He lifts his eyes to see if there will be military help coming to his aid - but no - GOD is his help!

This is our reminder, our encouragement, this morning. No matter how small or big the thing (or things!) you are facing today that will threaten to destabilize you, you can speak this Psalm over your life. Your soul finds rest in GOD. He is your salvation, your rock, and your fortress. In other words, he rescues you, he strengthens you, and he protects you. Hide your life in him! Find your peace in him!

And when we do, we will never be shaken. This doesn't mean we won't be challenged or even severely tried. But when God is our source of security, even the trials don't shake us. Because we have found the one who holds us secure through the trials.

Draw near to me today Lord. Help me to live my life with you as my rock and my foundation, and not to look to other sources to find my peace and my rest.
