Verse: Psalm 59:9-10, 17

9 You are my strength, I watch for you;
    you, God, are my fortress,
10     my God on whom I can rely.

17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
    you, God, are my fortress,
    my God on whom I can rely.

Thoughts
I love that David repeats himself so often in his Psalms. Sometimes I wonder if he's trying to get himself to really believe it. "You are my strength. You are my strength. You are my strength." "You are my fortress. You are my fortress." What do you think? Why do you think he repeats himself?

I also wonder if you need to hear this today. I know I do. I need God to be my strength. There's a lot of confusion and fighting and scary stuff in our world right now. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense. There's a lot of attacking each other. And I get the feeling what while we all put on a good front, we are all secretly hurting on the inside. We are walking around wounded.

We need God to be our fortress - to protect us. We need God to be our strength. I want to tell you today that you can rely on God. In fact, he wants you to rely on him! He is offering his hand to you to grab in the midst of struggle and pain.

This is the God we worship. He isn't far off and distant. He isn't un-interested and cold. He loves you. He sees your needs. He longs for you to rely on him. Do what David says here: "I watch for you." Watch for him! Watch for how he will be your strength, how he will protect you, how he will encourage you. And you will see the goodness of God in your life!

Prayer
I pray that you would draw near to me and be my strength in all ways!
