Think Like God!

Verse: 1 Corinthians 2:10-16

these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Thoughts
It is hard to believe that we can "have the mind of Christ." But part of the Spirit's work within us is to transform us and lead us into understanding God's ways. To lead us into wisdom. To shape our worldview around the Truth of God's Word. And to help us see other people the way he sees them (wouldn't that be great?!).

Paul is pretty creative in his writing here, but I think the gist of what he is saying is captured in what Jesus said here: "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." (John 16:13)

As we are filled with the Spirit, and learn to live in step with the Spirit, he leads us into living in God's Truth for our lives. How does he do this? He brings conviction when we are out of step with God's Truth, he nudges us towards obedience, he reveals Truth in God's Word as we read it and study it, and he speaks prophetically to us through others (among other ways!).

So what is the Spirit saying to you these days? What is he leading you into? What is he teaching you? Where is he sanding off the rough edges of your life and character? Where is he speaking encouragement? As we learn to live "led by the Spirit" we begin to walk in the Truth of Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." As we "keep in step with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:25) we truly begin to be "transformed into his image" (2 Corinthians 3:18) and have the mind of Christ.

Wouldn't that be nice? Wouldn't it be great to see the world the way God does? And to see your friends, family, and neighbors through the lens of God's heart for them? To think about people like he does, and have his sense of wisdom and hope? That is all part of the journey, as we learn to walk with the Spirit, and he leads us into Truth, we are transformed into his image, and we learn the mind of Christ. The only problem is, I wish it would happen faster!

Prayer
Psalm 25:4-5
Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
