Anyone Can Do This

Verse: Colossians 4:2-4

Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

Thoughts
Prayer used to bore me. If I'm being honest. I'm a "doer." I would rather go do something for God than pray about it. I'd rather go help someone than pray for them from a distance. I'd rather go invite someone to church than pray that people would come to church.

But I have to say that over the years I have been changing. There truly is power to prayer (imagine that - Paul knew what he was talking about!). What I have come to love about prayer is that ANYBODY CAN DO IT!

That's the thought for today: you can pray. Literally I know this without even knowing who you are. You can pray. Even if you don't believe in God AT ALL, you can still pray! Even if you are having your worst week ever, you can pray. Even if you are crushing life right now, you can pray.

And you know what else? You should pray. And not because anyone tells you to pray - but because it is so good for you. Just like you should breathe. No one feels like breathing is a huge burden right? It's pretty important.

Prayer is like breathing for your spirit. It connects you to God. It reminds you that you are not alone. It allows his love to flow to you. It creates a deeper connection with him. It gives you access to his wisdom for your life. It centers your priorities on him rather than all the things competing for it. And prayer also, mysteriously, does do things! It moves God to heal, to deliver, to help, to strengthen, and more.

Basically, if you could use more of God's help in your life, prayer is the key. And you can do it. Literally anyone can do it. You don't have to know any special words or formula -- you just have to talk to him. He loves when you talk to him. He delights in what you have to say. And he is waiting, patiently, lovingly, to hear from you. So will you?
