Don't Settle

Verse: Colossians 3:1-4

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Thoughts
Imagine if Lebron James had decided he didn't think he was a very good basketball player. Imagine that after highschool he had decided, against everyone's advice, to not go the NBA and instead become a car salesman. He would still play basketball for fun (and obviously dominate) but he never believed he could play in the NBA. And he was also really worried about money, so he felt he needed to get a job really quickly.

That would be insane, right? The best player of a generation just refusing to tap into his talent? This is what we do, as followers of Jesus, when we set our hearts, desires, and minds on things of the earth and not on things of God.  True life is found in pursuing God's life for us, but it is so easy to forget that and to just settle for "good enough."

We can get distracted so easily by thinking about the things of the earth: status, money, popularity, looks, etc - and miss what we were really created for - relationship with God and each other, serving others, the power of God moving through us, and his plan for our lives.

Don't get tricked into setting your sights too low. Your life, your best life, is hidden in Christ. Seek him. Set your focus on things of God's Kingdom and not just on things of the earth. Pursue what he has for you. And he will lead into a plan you will be so excited to be part of.

Prayer
God help me to keep my eyes set on you and not to get distracted by the cares and temptations of this world.
