Avoiding Sin

Verse:Hebrews 12:12-13

Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.  “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

Thoughts
Years ago I was driving in my neighborhood and I decided to take a shortcut through an alley. I felt this small voice in my head and heart say, "don't go that way." I went anyway. And halfway through I hit a pothole that I didn't see and it dislodged my muffler!

So often in life we ignore that still small voice telling us to avoid that conversation, or that situation, or that video, and we end up sinning and breaking something inside of us.

This verse tells us to "make level paths for your feet." I take this to mean "don't put yourself in situations where sin is difficult to resist." You know your weaknesses right? You know the ways in which you are most likely to fall into sin. And you also know when you are most vulnerable to falling to those temptations.

Can we make wise decisions in our life to put ourselves in a place to succeed rather than sin? For instance if your girlfriend and you are super tempted to have sex before marriage, maybe you shouldn't make out in your bedroom alone with no one home. Or if you are tempted to cheat on a test, maybe you shouldn't sit next to the person who lets you. Or if you are tempted to watch lustful videos on your phone, maybe you should delete that app.

Think about the ways in which you are most likely to fall, and then think about what it would look like to make "level paths" for yourself. We all fall. But we can be wise to avoid the potholes, so we fall less often.

Prayer
Please help me to be wise, show me where I am compromising and letting myself get too close to sin.
