Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Thoughts
Following Jesus is not easy. Our faith will be tested and tried by the world we live in. We will face disappointment, confusion, and doubt. And there will be times when we feel like giving up. I've seen it happen. I've seen people let go of their faith. Most often it's not a point in time decision either. Usually it's a process. It happens over time. Slowly they drift away from their core convictions and their relationship with Jesus.
This is why the author of Hebrews encourages us to "hold unswervingly" to our hope in Jesus. Several verses in the Old Testament describe this as "clinging" to God. Psalm 63:8 for example: "I cling to you; your right hand upholds me." I love that picture. I love the idea of holding onto God with all my might, but at the same time, he is holding me.
What I take away from this verse in Hebrews (and the one in Psalms) is that the reason we can hold onto God no matter what, is that we know he is holding onto us. "Hold onto your faith, because the one who promised is faithful." God is faithful. I looked up some synonyms to faithful: Loyal. Constant. Devoted. Unwavering. Steadfast. Dedicated. Trustworthy. Dependable.
This is why we can hold onto our faith - because he is faithful to us. We can depend on him. We can trust him. When everything is going sideways in life, we can trust that he is holding us with his right hand. When we feel isolated or confused, we can depend on him to never leave us. When we are grieving or in pain, we can know that his mercy and comfort are steadfast and unwavering.
Let the God behind this verse, speak his Truth to you today through this verse. Let the God who upholds the universe, uphold you today. Let him who is eternally faithful, inspire faithfulness in you today. Cling to him. He's the only truly faithful source of all things good that we will ever know.

Thank you. Just, thank you. I am so grateful for your faithfulness to me. I choose to hold on tight to you, no matter what.
