Verse: Hebrews 6:18-20
“so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”
Thoughts
Our hope in Jesus is a sure and steadfast anchor for the soul. Picture a boat being tossed by a storm. Imagine the boat being buffeted by wind and waves, threatening to pull it out to sea, or crash it against the rocks on shore. But the boat stays put. It isn't moved. It isn't destroyed. Why? Because it is anchored to something far stronger than the storm.
This is what Jesus offers us in the storms of life. When we place our hope in Jesus, he becomes an anchor for our soul. Then, when the wind and waves of life begin to crash against us, our soul remains at peace because we are anchored to something stronger than the storm.
We can place our hope (or trust) in anything, can't we? It's like a captain who puts the anchor in sand rather than rock. We can put our hope in ourselves, or in our popularity, or our skill. But none of those will serve to protect us when the storms of life will come. They will all fail. Only Jesus is the true Rock that will surely secure us no matter what comes our way.
What storms are you facing today? In what way can you make sure that your hope is firmly planted in Jesus and not in anything else? Lean on him today. He will be your strength. Put your hope fully in him. He will never fail you.
Prayer
I place my hope in you, Jesus. Thank you that you are the most secure place to be.
