Verse: Galatians 5:22-25
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Thoughts
When you look at a fruit tree, can you tell what kind of tree it is? How?
Well first, there has to be fruit growing. Right? If no fruit is growing, you won't know. It will just look like (get this) any other tree. In the same way, when we look at our lives, can we tell what kind of tree we are? Do we have any fruit growing in our lives? Or do we look just like everyone else?
Second, you look at what kind of fruit. If there are oranges growing - what kind of tree is it? (I'll give you a minute. LOL). If there are apples growing....etc etc.
So what kind of fruit is growing in our lives? Is the fruit of a short temper growing? Or the fruit of not being easily angered? Is there fruit of impatience growing? Or is patience a hallmark of our lives? In our relationships is the fruit of selfishness growing? Or can people tell what kind of tree we are by the fruit of love in our words and our actions?
The big question is are we producing fruit that, if we were to look at our lives, we'd be able to tell what kind of "tree" we are? Are we producing the fruit that woudl mark us as a Jesus follower? Or not?
This can be overwhelming at first, but today just ask the Lord to reveal one fruit that you could begin to pray about and meditate on. Seek his face and ask for him to begin to grow that fruit in your life.
Prayer
I know that I can't grow this fruit on my own. It is, afterall, a fruit of the Spirit. So I pray, Holy Spirit, that you would produce this fruit in my life. I pray for more of you, overflowing as fruit in my life.
