Verse: Galatians 5:14-15
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
Thoughts
Think about how much you love yourself. (I know, weird, right?)
You know what you like. You get upset when you don't get your way. You want good things to happen for you. You want to get ahead. You want friends. You want people to like you. You want people to trust you. You take care of yourself - make sure you have clothes you like, and food you love. The list could go on and on.
We are professionals at looking out for ourselves.
Paul, in this verse echoing Jesus, turns this completely upside down.
He tells us to love others in the same ways that we love ourselves! That means that all that stuff we just wrote should apply to how we treat others!
How can we do this? That's your devotion this morning. Take a moment and think about how you can love the people in your life as well as you love yourself. How can you look out for what they want? What they like? What they need? How can you think of them first before thinking of yourself? It's a challenge for sure. But by God's grace, this way of living can revolutionize our lives.
Prayer
I pray, simply, that you would help me to love others like I love myself.
