Verse: Galatians 5:1

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Thoughts
Have you ever gone back to a bad habit? Or an old sin that you thought you were done with? It can feel pretty defeating can't it?

Paul, in this chapter, isn't talking about that per se. He's talking about the Galatians reverting back to observing all the Jewish laws, when in reality Christ had set them free.

In the same way, what things has Jesus set you free from that you tend to go back to? Today's encouragement is to not give up. Paul challenges the Galatians to stand firm in the freedom God has given them.

I think that's his message to us this morning as well. Stand firm in the freedom Jesus has bought for you. Stand firm in the freedom from sin, the freedom from shame, the freedom from self punishment, and the freedom from fear. Stand firm in God's righteousness that he has given you. Stand firm in the love of God for you that is unconditional. Stand firm in the peace of God that is poured out into your heart.

Today (or any day!) if you feel yourself slipping back into old ways of thinking or acting, remind yourself that Jesus has set you free, and you can stand firm in his freedom!

Prayer
I pray for courage and perseverance to stand firm in the areas you have set me free!
