Broken to Pieces

Verse: Matthew 21:42-44

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

“‘The stone the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
    and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. 44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”

Thoughts
In the end of the Parable of the Tenants, Jesus compares himself to a cornerstone. The most important stone for builders. Then he says this powerful statement:  "Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed."

I think this is a fascinating concept for Jesus to introduce. He basically is saying, look, the message of the Kingdom of God is going to humble you. You can choose how it humbles you. You either humble yourself before it, or it will humble you in the end.

We get to choose. Do we throw our lives upon the Rock of Jesus and be broken (in a good way), or do we resist and live our own way and be crushed (in a not good way)?

Today as you come before the Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, Defeater of Death and Sin, and Savior of the World - will you not be humbled? Will you not utter the prayer of Jesus, "not my will, but yours be done"?

As we fall upon the rock and find true humility, we learn to build our lives in surrender to him - to build our lives ON THE ROCK, and not on our own power. And in that, we find true power, true life, and true love! When we humble ourselves, indeed the Bible promises, that God will lift us up!  "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." (1 Peter 5:6)

Prayer
I pray that I would find humility in you as I learn to fall upon you and trust you with all that I have.
