Is Believing Enough?

Verse: Matthew 7:24-29

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Thoughts
Is it enough to believe in God?

This is an age-old question. What do you think? Is believing that Jesus is God, that he died and rose again for your sins, enough?

Well, enough for what? Enough to "get you into heaven?" Enough to live the fullness of life God intends for you? Enough to fully enjoy relationship with your Father in heaven?

James tells us this: "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.  You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder." (James 2:18-19)

He would seem to be arguing that believing in God is good, but it isn't the end! IT IS JUST THE BEGINNING!

Yes it is vital to believe in God. But God wants so much more for us. To really enjoy relationship with God, the fullness of life he offers us, and true community with other believers, we need to do what Jesus says here: put his teachings into practice.

That is the whole difference between the guy who builds on the sand, and the one who builds on the rock. He hears God's words and puts them into practice.

This is a powerful reminder for me, and for you. I want my life to be more than just believing in God. I want to live a life surrendered and obedient to the teachings of Jesus. I want to submit my life to his leadership completely. I want to practice a lifetime of obedience and faithfulness to his teachings. This will lead to my life being built on the rock!

Prayer
I pray that you would give me strength and wisdom and courage to follow your teachings and put them into practice!
