Verse: 1 John 3:23-24
23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
The transition from dating my wife to being married brought about several changes in my life. One big change was that we no longer lived in two separate places. When we were dating we would hang out during the day, or in the evening, but always head our separate ways eventually. Back to our homes. Once we got married, we never had to do that again.
And that's a major adjustment to your life! After one big ceremony/party, now all the sudden, she was ALWAYS THERE! She was there when I woke up, there when I went to bed, there when I brushed my teeth, had a good day, had a bad day, was eating, watching TV.....she was EVERYWHERE. And overall, let's be honest, that's what I wanted! It was good! (Even if she didn't like how messy I kept .... well ... everything!)
This is the reality that Jesus is offering to you and I. He wants us to live in him, and he wants to live in us. He doesn't want to be a visitor, or a guest. He doesn't want us to even date him - seeing him for special moments and events, but then going "back to our own lives." He wants to move in!
And that is the beauty and power of walking with Jesus. He wants to be with you in all things. When you wake up, he wants to be there. When you are sad, struggling, angry, and not your best self, he wants to be in all of that. When you are happy, winning, doing great, he wants to be in that too. He wants to walk with you, whisper words of love and encouragement, whisper words of conviction, of direction, of guidance and wisdom. He wants to listen too - to your heart, your dreams, your fears, and your doubts.
Do you know Jesus like this? Do you have a day to day, moment to moment, connected relationship with him? If not, you can! This is what he is offering you. What are you waiting for?
Jesus I want to be closer to you, and I want you to be closer to me. I pray that I would realize that you are with me, and listen to your still small voice.
